Lesbian Sex Clubs

13-Jul-2006

I’m not sure if the whole lesbian sex club thing was ever able to take off, but I doubt it. These clubs have been around since the ‘80s, but my experience with one happened back in the ‘90s in San Francisco and it seemed like trying to pull teeth to get these edgy S.F. dykes to actually do each other in public. At the time, I was seeing this push me/pull you bisexual woman who thought it would be “fun to check out.” What I remember is a stuffy warehouse packed with punks. This woman named Mimi, dressed in a studded leather corset, was on stage cracking a bullwhip and shouting: “We are here to FUCK! We are here to FUCK!” and her voice was like, well, it made fucking the last thing I wanted to do. But that was OK, because no one else seemed to want to either. Instead, everyone just stood around looking terrified--morbidly afraid to make eye contact. The remainder of the evening was a throwback to the 7th grade, when I wore high-waters to the school dance, and tried to show some rhythm but knew it was a lost cause because my older sister had already informed me that I had the worst rhythm of anyone she’d ever seen.
I’ve heard the lesbian sex club of the 21st century has had more success in urban areas when they facilitate “erotic dating games.” Who knew a simple round of “spin the bottle” could do so much for the sexual evolution of our kind?
It was probably my own awkward energy (and mine alone) that jammed a cog in the whole cycle of sexual energy at the club that night. Once I left the entire warehouse heaved a huge sigh of relief—and the orgy ensued.
