REMEMBER Pepe Le Pew, the crazy cartoon skunk who just didn’t know when to back off? No matter how hard his feline object of desire tried to squirm free or to claw Pepe’s eyes out, Pepe was convinced it was all just a ploy, the lady-skunk version of playing hard to get. The PLPD lesbian does this on a subtler scale: lurking in the wings, pining for the woman who never intends to go out with her. In severe cases of PLPD, the sufferer interprets all signs of rejection as containing hidden signs of true love. She puts her whole life on hold, refusing to date other women while she waits for her little kitty to come around.
She may wind up a stalker. Or she may just carry around a faded picture of the woman for the rest of her lonely life and not say a word to her. Ever.
